I was with Charlie, a friend's German Shepherd, when I first discovered the soul of a dog...right there in her big, brown eyes. We lost Charlie to cancer a few years later, but I never forgot her. She moved me...her eyes reached out and touched me. The idea of Sophie began with Charlie. During the last two years, in my travels with Sophie, we've encountered many dogs....and each time I've discovered a new soul, a new and unique story behind those dogs' eyes. The Charlie Project is about telling those stories.
Charlie
This blog, the beginning of the project, will host a series of short photo essays about the wonderful dogs that I come across in my life....some belong to family, some to friends, some to strangers in the park. I am hoping this project endeavor serves to strengthen my skills as a writer and a photographer. All the photos (outside of the Charlie images in this post) and writing are my original work. I hope you enjoy spending some time with these dogs...I know that Sophie and I did.
The Charlie Project: celebrating the soul of a dog.

What a nice way to get to know these dogs, to share a little of their souls as you capture a slice of their lives with photography. The lens sometimes seems to see more than the eye.
Such a wonderful idea for a photography project. Dogs have such individual expressions and seem to speak through their eyes. I look forward to this photo journey studying dogs. I'm sure it will be enlightening.
Fabulous mission and adventure. I so miss having a dog, but will in the future. Blessings to you, Sophie, and your project. Susan
LOVE your idea & LOVE your first few posts!! You have brought tears of joy to my eyes...thank you:)
What a wonderful adventure you have set for you and Sophie! I can't wait to read the essays and see the photos of the many pups you meet in journey!
Excellent idea..I look forward to seeing the photos! :)
What a wonderful idea! I'm truly looking forward to seeing more!
Hi Andrea - I love this idea. And the photos are great. You are so right about meeting some dogs and just making a connection. I have met dogs I felt an instant bond with and knew we could be friends. My two - border collie/aussie - border collie/McNab - blow me away constantly with their intelligence and insight. I look forward to the postings here.
Hi Andrea,
This sounds like a wonderful project. I wish you much success and I will support the site. I can't resist cute, fun pictures of dogs. So sweet.
Take care
this is such a cool idea! and your sophie is just beautiful. i have ridgebacks, but their best friend is a border collie named grady, so i am a big border collie fan, too!
I like this idea almost as much as I love the photos you've taken already.
Excellent project.
What a lovely idea. And even before I knew you started this project, I knew you deserved an AWARD. But it is really for your other blog. I've left it for you over at my place, you can pick it up if you like, and I wish you all the best with this project. Such a shame you don't live anywhere near here. I'd love you to try and capture the souls of our dogs with your camera. I can only make a decent photo of them when they are asleep. Eyes closed.
Hugs
I love stories and photos of dogs, cats too. Great idea!!
I'm so pleased to have found your blogs. Such beautiful photos. To me, dogs are not pets, but family members so it's lovely to connect with others who feel the same.
A net friend sent me a link to your site! What a great and beautiful thing you are doing!
Quick question: When you speak of research for animal health, can you be a bit more specific?
I know, for instance, there is a rabies challenge study (5-6 years long) being done by Dr. Gene Dodds (hemopet.com). Is this the kind of research you are speaking of?
Beautiful site, gorgeous photos.
you are a true mensch in every meaning of the word
what a wonderful way to celebrate the animals that make so much more wonderful
Hi Andrea,
This is a wonderful idea, poor Charlie...what a great dog. This was Terri's dog correct? I know she was very much attached to Charlie. Reminds me a lot of my Bailey that we had to put down last year. He survived being hit by car and lived for 9 years. He was a great dog, we miss him everyday.
Thanks for sharing all these stories.
Melissa

your essays are wonderful and beautiful, as are the subjects...I am looking forward to more...
